Why doesn't my HP50G USB Driver work on Windows 7 or Windows 8?

HP hasn't yet released a Windows 8 signed USB driver for the HP50G. The Windows 7 Driver does work in Windows 8, but Windows 8 settings need to be configured to allow installation of an

Which Version of Quickclose should I be using?
HP50G - Version 3.1 or Version 2.15/2.13
HP49G+ - Version 3.1 or Version 2.13/2.13
HP48Gii - Version 3.01 CORE, Version 3.0 PLUS or Version 2.15
HP48GX - Version 3.0 CORE, Version 3.0 PLUS or Version 2.02
HP48G+ - Version 3.0 CORE, Version 3.0 PLUS or Version 2.02
HP49G - Version 3.1 or Version 2.13
HP48G - Insufficient memory for Version 2 or 3
HP48S/SX - Quickclose will not run on these models
Version 3.1 combines 3.01 CORE and 3.0 PLUS for use on the 50G and 49G+.
Version 2.15 is similar to 2.13, but does not include the ASTRO module.
The HP48Gii doesn't have suffiecient memory to run versions 3.1 or 2.13
Programs for the HP48G,48G+ & 48GX are incompatible with the HP49G, 49G+ and 50G.
Is there software available for the HP35S>
A suite of essential survey programs for the HP35S is available from resellers.
Is there an Educational Version of Quickclose available?
Yes, a discounted educational version is available for any student and teacher of an accredited surveying, geomatics or geodesy degree. The educational version is identical to the professional version, however documentation is provided only in electronic form. Students can continue to use the educational version with full support after they have graduated.

Is there a discount for purchase of multiple licences (e.g. Corporate)?
Yes. Contact Quickclose or your nearest reseller for an estimate. Second and subsequent licences for the same organisation are heavily discounted.
What geodetic datums and map projections are supported?
Quickclose Version 3 supports any geodetic datum, however at this stage only UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) and TM (Transverse Mercator) map projections are supported. Coding for Lamberts Conformal Conic with one or two standard parallels is currently under development. Check the news & updates link for updates. Pre-computed projection and transformation parameters for many areas are included in the CD release and are constantly under development. It is possible to enter user-defined projection parameters (for example, a local plane grid) into the Geodetic module in the absence of supplied pre-computed parameters.
Can I use Quickclose on my computer or Pocket PC?
The CD version of Quickclose includes Windows PC and Windows Mobile 5.0 (for Pocket PC/IPAQ) emulators of Quickclose. When installed, these emulators can run Quickclose at PC speeds. Use the supplied serial number and activation code to fully activate the emulator.
Is Version 2 still available?
Version 2 is included with the current CD release of Quickclose.
I'm running an old version of Quickclose, how do I upgrade?
If you wish to upgrade from Version 1 or 2 to Version 3, you will need to purchase an upgrade. Version upgrades are heavily discounted.

If you wish to update your existing version (for example if you were supplied Version 3.0 or 3.01 and wish to upgrade to Version 3.1) you can download the latest version of Quickclose.

Follow the instructions included in the downloaded zip file to update your software. You can either do a complete re-install, or you can just do a library update, if you wish to preserve your data and settings.If you do a complete re-install, you may need to re-enter your serial number and activation code.
How do I obtain a Serial Number & Activation Code?
You will need a serial number and activation code in order to fully activate the Quickclose software. The serial number and activation codes are supplied when the software is purchased or upgraded.

I can't connect my HP49G+ or HP50G to the computer. What's wrong?

The driver supplied with the connectivity software might not have been installed properly, particularly if a "create driver error"
message appeared during the installation.
To install the driver correctly:
Connect the HP49G+/50G to the PC using the USB cable provided. Turn the calculator on. A
balloon should appear "Found new hardware HPx9G+". The "found new hardware
wizard" should automatically start up. Click on the radio button "Install from a list or
specific location". Press "Next". Select "search removable media", or browse to the
connkit folder on the CD. At the warning message, select "Continue anyway". A message
should appear stating that the driver has been successfully installed.
For reference, the driver filename is HPx9G2k.sys and is normally resident in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
The program freezes when I'm computing missing distances/bearings. What's wrong?
A bug was identified in Version 3.0. You will need install Version 3.1, or Verion 3.01 CORE.

I can't read the manual properly. Is there something wrong with the fonts?
The following fonts need to be installed on your computer hp48menu.TTF, 49G.TTF & hp48keys.TTF.
Download Quickclose fonts To install the fonts on your PC, go Start, Settings, Control Panel, Fonts, Files, Install New Font.
Can Quickclose be used as a Data Collector?
Quickclose has not been designed to be a data collector, however instrument observations can typed in and reduced to coordinates in the 3D section of the COGO module.
Can I download Quickclose data to my computer?
Yes, COGO and Geodesy module coordinate files can be downloaded to a PC in ASCII text format. Refer to Section 5.53 of the User documentation.
Can I import coordinate data into Quickclose?
Yes, coordinate files in ASCII text format can be uploaded to the calculator for use with Quickclose. Refer to Section 5.51 of the User documentation.
I'm getting an "insufficient memory" warning, what do I do?
Press the RESET menu key in the QCLOSE directory. This clears any temporary storage registers and files. It is advisable to download or delete unwanted jobs in the COGO or CLOSE modules to free up more space.
Quickclose is running very slowly, what's wrong?
Press the RESET menu key in the QCLOSE directory. This "kills" any programs that are suspended in the calculator's memory. With larger CLOSE jobs, the HP48G+/GX will slow as the job size exceeds 30 legs.
I seem to have lost the Quickclose Main menu. How do I get back?
Do the following steps to get back to the Quickclose main menu; Press [ON] then [VAR] then [Left-shift] [VAR], then the |QCLOS| menu key, then |RUN|.
